Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- Seven people have been arrested following the tragic drowning of a five-year-old child during a swimming session at a hotel in Nugegoda.
The arrests were made in connection with the death of the child, who resided in the Udahamulla area.
The victim was a student at a private preschool and was reportedly taking part in a swimming activity with a group of teachers and other pupils under supervision.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning (08) at a hotel on Stanley Mawatha, within the Mirihana Police Division.
The deceased was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted.
The Judicial Medical Officer returned an open verdict on the cause of death.
