Sri Lanka, Aug. 2 -- 488 people were arrested for drug-related offences during a special island-wide operation yesterday.

The arrests included 161 people for heroin-related crimes and another 161 for offences involving 'ice'.

From the January 1 to the August 1, 2025, a total of 37,251 suspects have been arrested with over 930 kilograms of heroin.

During the same period, over 1,398 kilograms of 'ice' were seized, leading to the arrest of 45,111 individuals.

Additionally, 40,404 people were arrested for cannabis-related offences, with more than 11,438 kilograms of the substance seized.
