Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- The 22nd Constitutional Amendment Bill was included in the parliamentary agenda.

Parliament presentation is scheduled for tomorrow (18) to extend the Supreme Court judges' retirement age from 65 to 67 years and the Court of Appeal judges' retirement age from 63 to 65 years.

The government said that the objective is to minimise existing court delays in the judicial system and ensure the continuous service of senior judges.

Strong opposition emerged from various parties, including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, pointing out that the amendment could impact judicial independence, generating intense discussions in political and legal circles.
