Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- Sapugaskanda Police have reported that fifteen children being held at the Makola Juvenile Detention Centre in Sapugaskanda have run away.

The police say the children, aged between fourteen and seventeen, were detained at the centre following court orders for various offences.

A care officer at the centre filed a complaint with the police yesterday (28), regarding the escape.

In her complaint, the officer mentioned that these children have ongoing cases in courts across the Western Province.

Police also stated that the children were referred to the detention centre by the courts for offences including drug charges, abetting homicide, robbery, theft, and rioting.
