Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- Police have detained three suspects in Nikaweratiya on suspicion of illegally excavating private land in the Pinnapolegama area in search of artifacts.

The arrests were made following a targeted raid by officers from the Nikaweratiya Police Station, following a tip-off.

The suspects, all of whom are residents of the Nikaweratiya area, are aged 20, 32, and 51.

Nikaweratiya Police are currently conducting further enquiries into the incident.
