India, July 8 -- Benchmark equity indices plunged sharply on Tuesday, with the Sensex tumbling over 1,700 points during intraday trade after US President Donald Trump dropped a bombshell statement over the Iran war.

The benchmark Nifty 50 fell 2.12 per cent to 23,882.05 and the BSE Sensex slid 2.15 per cent to 76,503.6, both logging their worst session in more than three months, according to data cited in a Reuters report. Track July 8 Iran war updates here
