NEW DELHI, Aug. 12 -- A 48-year-old woman was allegedly run over by a speeding BMW SUV in the Delhi Cantonment area on Tuesday afternoon while she was crossing the road on her way home from work. The driver of the car, who allegedly fled the spot after the accident, was arrested within two hours, police said. Deputy commissioner of police (south west) Amit Goel identified the victim as Jaiwanti, a resident of Mehram Nagar, and the accused as Deepak, of Mandoli, who was employed as the driver of the BMW by its owner. Police refused to share details of the owner. According to her family, Jaiwanti was a contractual employee of the Delhi Cantonment Board and worked as a house help in the Mehram Nagar police colony.
