India, Aug. 25 -- NBC4 Washington reporter and anchor Joseph Olmo is leaving broadcast journalism after nearly a decade. Olmo announced his departure live on air near the end of Sunday's program.

"Well, before we go tonight, I've got just one more story for you," he told viewers.

He reflected on his career and his time at NBC4, saying that local news has given him the chance to tell stories that matter to the community.

"For the better part of a decade, which includes three thrilling years right here at NBC 4, I have had one remarkable job. You can cover the world, but nothing compares to being a local news reporter. Because think about it. Who else would tell you about all the things happening where we live?"
