Who is Katherine Legge? Only female Indy 500 driver out after early crash in Coke 600 double bid
India, May 24 -- Katherine Legge is a 45-year-old veteran racing driver from England who attempted one of motorsport's toughest challenges, racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
According to Fox Sports, Legge became the first woman to attempt "The Double," a feat where drivers compete in INDYCAR's Indianapolis 500 before traveling to Charlotte Motor Speedway for NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 later the same day.
However, Legge's Indy 500 run ended early after an accident on Lap 19. Ryan Hunter-Reay spun out in Turn 2, Legge tried to avoid him but the two cars still made contact, bringing out the first caution flag.
Both drivers exited their cars safely but Legge's Indy 500 race was over.
