LUCKNOW, Sept. 21 -- In-vitro fertilisation (IVF) services at King George's Medical University's (KGMU) Queen Mary's Hospital have remained non-functional for more than a year, while the 340-bed facility continues to handle nearly 1,000 outpatient visits a day, exposing gaps in specialised treatment, medicines and basic patient amenities.

The IVF facility, introduced at Queen Mary's in 2009, has remained shut amid issues related to procurement and availability of equipment and consumables. The prolonged disruption has affected women seeking fertility treatment at one of the state's major government-run maternity hospitals.

KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said efforts were underway to restore the IVF service at the earliest.
