Wearing Hijab is not An essential part of islam: HC
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 25 -- The Allahabad high court has dismissed a petition seeking direction to school authorities to allow a girl student to wear a headscarf (hijab) in addition to the uniform, observing that it is not an essential part of Islam.
"Wherever this issue has arisen, the high courts have been unanimous in opinion that wearing a headscarf is not essential part of the Islamic faith for a woman to don, in the absence of which, faith would be jeopardized," the bench of justices JJ Munir and Indrajeet Shukla said.
The petition filed by a student of a private school in Prayagraj, asking for directions to school authorities to permit her to wear a hijab.
