India, April 11 -- A water pipeline ruptured at the Lucky Hotel junction on SV Road in Bandra west on Friday afternoon, triggering flooding, traffic chaos and disrupting water supply in parts of Bandra.
The incident occurred at 2.30pm, when a 24-inch underground pipeline gave way after the collar connecting two sections of pipe gave way. Dharmatejas Prasannadas, assistant engineer, water works (H-West ward), said the collar was old. The ruptured pipe, four feet beneath the surface, sent water gushing upwards, cracking the asphalt and tearing through the road.
