CHENNAI, Aug. 18 -- Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday announced a full waiver on cooperative crop loans up to Rs.75,000 distributed among the state's farmers.

The additional waiver follows the government's May 25 announcement of a complete waiver on crop loans up to Rs.50,000 availed by small farmers. In a suo moto statement at the state assembly on Monday, Vijay said the latest waiver would cost the state exchequer Rs.953.06 crore. Cooperative crop loans to the tune of an amount up to Rs.75,000 would be waived completely, he said. However, loans between Rs.75,000 and Rs.1 lakh would be subject to a waiver of up to Rs.75,000, while loans above Rs.1 lakh would be subject to a Rs.35,000 waiver.
