Vijay: TN will drop cases against farmers, teachers
CHENNAI, Sept. 3 -- The Tamil Nadu government will withdraw cases registered against farmers and teachers for peacefully protesting for their rights and demands during the previous DMK regime, chief minister C Joseph Vijay said in the Assembly on Wednesday.
Making a statement under Rule 110, Vijay said the decision was taken on humanitarian grounds and based on democratic principles.
During the previous regime, several cases were registered between May 2021 and April 2026 against farmers and teachers who protested over their livelihoods, rights and social welfare demands, he said.
