Gorakhpur, Aug. 13 -- A 52-year-old veterinary doctor allegedly died by suicide in his apartment in Gorakhpur's Rajendra Nagar on Thursday morning, six days after he lodged an FIR alleging that a woman and her associates had cheated him of Rs.1.40 crore, police said.

Police said the woman and her father have already been arrested in connection with the alleged fraud case, while the circumstances surrounding the doctor's death are being investigated.

Gorakhnath's Circle Officer Ravi Kumar Singh said the deceased was posted as a veterinary doctor in neighbouring Maharajganj district. He lived with his wife, who is also a veterinary doctor, and their two children in Rajendra Nagar.
