India, April 1 -- The Uttarakhand Police have launched a special crackdown, called 'Operation Prahar', in Dehradun following a spate of criminal incidents, including the killing of a retired army Brigadier earlier this week, officials said on Wednesday.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by director general of police (DGP) Deepam Seth at the police headquarters on Tuesday evening. Senior officers, including IG Garhwal Rajiv Swarup, IG STF Nilesh Anand Bharne, SSP Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal and SSP STF Ajai Singh, attended the meeting.
