India, May 26 -- The United States plans to sharply scale back the military capabilities it makes available to assist European allies during a crisis, including fighter jets, warships and mid-air refuelling aircraft, German news outlet Spiegel reported on Tuesday.

The move comes at a time of mounting strain within the NATO alliance, as several European countries fear Washington could further reduce its military commitments to the region, according to a report by Reuters.
