UP govt gets 6 wks to submit final report on illegal payouts
New Delhi, April 2 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government to submit within six weeks the final report on suspected illegal payouts to landowners under the garb of compensation for acquisition, after the probe team sought additional time to link 12 Noida authority officials with alleged disproportionate assets amassed by them.
A special investigation team (SIT) of the UP Police is investigating the case.
"With a view to enable the SIT to complete the entrusted task, we grant six weeks more time to complete the process and submit a final report," said a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant.
