TVK may scrap plan for Parandur airport
CHENNAI, July 9 -- Tamil Nadu minister for energy resources and law R Nirmal Kumar on Wednesday reiterated the TVK government's intent to scrap the previous DMK administration's Parandur airport project in Kancheepuram district, citing environmental concerns and potential harm to farmers' livelihoods.
Speaking at an event in Coimbatore, Kumar cited Airport Authority of India officials and said the land in Parandur is unsuitable for runways as large parts of the site were covered with water bodies and farms.
