India, Oct. 20 -- The Donald Trump administration is reportedly hatching a plan to hire private debt collectors to go after Americans who have defaulted on their federal student loans, the Washington Sun reported Monday.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll published on the same day showed that Trump's approval ahead of the midterm elections in November has fallen to a record low of 31%. Per the Washington Post, the sources say Trump's Treasury Department is set to implement the plan as soon as the midterm elections are over.

Three of the sources said to the outlet that the US Treasury Department is planning to hire private debt collectors "possibly as soon as November."
