Trump govt cracks down on refundable tax credits for illegal migrants: What Indian H-1B workers, immigrants need to know
India, Aug. 20 -- The Trump administration is moving to block undocumented immigrants and other non-qualified aliens from receiving the refunded portions of four federal tax credits, under proposed rules issued by the US Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service.
The proposal would apply the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, or PRWORA, to the refunded portions of the adoption tax credit, child tax credit, American Opportunity Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit. Treasury said the move is aimed at ensuring taxpayer-funded benefits go to people who are legally eligible to receive them.
