Mumbai, June 1 -- Renowned playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, who carved a special niche for herself in Hindi film industry despite the supremacy of the Mangeshkar sisters, died on Sunday evening in Mumbai following age-related ailments. She was 89 and is survived by her husband, daughter and grandchildren. Gifted with a sonorous voice, which often sounded much like Lata Mangeshkar, Kalyanpur recorded several songs through the '50s and '60s under the baton of greats such as Naushad, SD Burman, Roshan, Shankar-Jaikishan and Kalyanji-Anandji.
