New Delhi, Oct. 3 -- Delhi's newest flyover needed two days to jam half of south Delhi. A traffic police drone survey found that Barapullah Phase-III squeezes six lanes into three at several points and ends one lane abruptly over Sundial Park. Physicists have treated traffic as a fluid since 1955, and their models predict what followed: jams that roll backwards for kilometres. In 2008, Japanese researchers showed 22 cars circling a track at a steady 30 km/h will jam with no obstacle. In Delhi, lane-cutting drivers and a merge that breaks a globally accepted design rule - which says two three-lane roads need five lanes post - take that finding to new levels.P4
