NEW DELHI, Oct. 9 -- A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced Thai national Wuthikorn Naruenartwanich, alias Willy Naru, 70, to six years in jail for conspiring to procure sophisticated arms and ammunition from China, through Bangladesh, for Naga insurgent group NSCN (IM).
Special NIA Judge Prashant Sharma said Naru's involvement in offences against the Government of India was an aggravating factor that "does not call for leniency".
The court noted that Section 18 of the The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA) prescribes a minimum five-year sentence.
