Tejaswin rewrites heptathlon Natl record on way to gold
New Delhi, Feb. 9 -- India's leading combined events athlete Tejaswin Shankar won the lone gold for India on the concluding day of Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China, as the country ended the competition with five medals to finish sixth overall.
Tejaswin, who had expressed a desire to break his own indoor heptathlon national record (5650 points) in this competition, walked the talk to aggregate 5993 points which is also a championship record.
The 27-year-old was leading on Day 1 and continued his good form in the next three events - 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m - on Sunday to claim the top spot.
Tejaswin, however, was not happy at missing the 6000-mark by seven points.
