New Delhi, May 6 -- The Delhi government is expecting its decision to extend a 50% road tax waiver to "strong hybrid" vehicles under its new electric vehicle (EV) policy to generate an additional annual revenue of Rs.300-400 crore by incentivising buyers to register the vehicles in Delhi.
While fully electric vehicles continue to receive a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees, strong hybrids will now be eligible for a partial exemption. "Delhi was losing a significant amount of revenue as consumers preferred registering hybrid vehicles in neighbouring states due to tax differences... If 10,000 hybrid vehicles being registered in Delhi, we will earn close to Rs.500 crore," said transport minister Pankaj Singh.htc
