CHENNAI, Oct. 3 -- Two officials were suspended on Friday over Hindi signposts along the state highway in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, the state government said in a statement. The suspensions came after videos of the newly installed signposts along the Sathankulam-Nazareth highway in Hindi along with Tamil and English surfaced on social media platforms. In the statement, the state government said an assistant executive engineer and an assistant engineer from the highways department were responsible for including Hindi signposts, which "violated the Tamil Nadu two-language policy".
