Sukhna floodgate opened for 2nd time this monsoon as Chandigarh logs 31.8 mm rain
Chandigarh, Sept. 5 -- One of Sukhna Lake's three floodgates was opened for the second time this monsoon on Thursday morning as 31.8 mm rain was recorded in the city overnight, taking the lake level close to the danger mark. The gate was kept open for around two hours to release excess water before being closed as the level receded.
Officials said the lake level touched 1,162.90 feet, just below the danger mark of 1,163 feet. Gate number one was opened by around two inches at 7 am and closed at about 9 am, when the water level had fallen to 1,162.60 feet.
The previous opening this monsoon was on August 30.
