India, Aug. 19 -- Former Supreme Court judge Sudershan Reddy has been announced as the Opposition's candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. He will contest against the NDA's nominee, CP Radhakrishnan. The election, scheduled for September 9, is expected to set the stage for a keen political contest as both camps rally support ahead of the vote.

The announcement was made by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.

Last week, the ruling NDA announced 67-year-old Radhakrishnan, a seasoned BJP leader, as their V-P pick. He is currently the Maharashtra governor and hails from Tamil Nadu.
