Sudden dust storm, showers lash NCR with 91kmph winds
New Delhi/Gurugram, June 24 -- A squally dust storm swept through Delhi-NCR on Tuesday afternoon, with the speed peaking at 91 kilometres per hour (kmph) at Palam, followed by a spell of thunderstorm and rainfall across the region, bringing relief from soaring daytime temperatures, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). One flight, from Srinagar to Delhi, was diverted from the capital to Lucknow due to poor weather conditions, officials said.
While dark skies that threatened to pour down harder brightened by the evening, the IMD has forecasted similar conditions to persist this week, and issued a yellow alert for Gurugram. There was no colour-coded alert for Delhi for Wednesday.
