Steel sector brought under draft carbon trading scheme
New Delhi, July 9 -- The Union environment ministry has issued a draft notification to bring iron and steel sectors under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), assigning greenhouse gas emission intensity reduction targets to over 250 iron steel plants, in a bid to reduce emissions from the sector. The draft, dated June 26, but shared recently, shows plant-specific GHG emission intensity targets under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 have been issued for 255 major plants across the country, with public comments for 60 days before the rules are finalised.
