India, April 11 -- The state education department has announced a statewide 'enrolment verification' drive to physically check student attendance and records in schools from April 11 to April 22. The exercise will be conducted in three phases, on April 11, April 15, and April 22, and will cover students from Classes 2 to 9 and Class 11. For the first time, Class 1 students will also be included.

However, the decision has drawn strong objections from teachers across the state, as the verification is scheduled on the same days as the Periodic Assessment Tests (PAT). Teachers have said that conducting the exercise during examinations will significantly increase their workload.
