New Delhi, April 17 -- The Delhi high court on Thursday said the Sentence Review Board (SRB) appeared to have rejected the premature release plea of Santosh Kumar Singh, who is serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of law student Priyadarshini Mattoo, based on "public perception", and assured him an "objective treatment" in the matter. A bench of justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani observed that despite the heinous nature of the offence, the SRB could not rely solely on that ground to deny premature release, particularly when recommendations existed in favour of such relief.
