Amritsar, Aug. 23 -- The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) executive committee on Saturday approved a Rs.2.5 crore grant-in-aid for Miri Piri Medical College, Shahabad Markanda, Haryana, and gave in-principle approval for construction of a memorial dedicated to human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who went missing in 1995, at Harike Pattan.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the executive committee chaired by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, who said the proposal for the Khalra memorial was approved in accordance with directions issued by the Akal Takht jathedar during a recent event at Harike Pattan. A suitable site will be identified, and work on the memorial will begin soon, he said.
