New Delhi, March 26 -- The Supreme Court has directed all high courts to strictly enforce the statutory bar on disclosure of a rape survivor's identity across all pending cases, as it flagged persistent lapses despite a clear legal mandate.
A bench of justices Sanjay Karol and N Kotiswar Singh said that the prohibition under Section 228-A of the Indian Penal Code (replaced by section 72 in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) has long been settled law but has not been followed with the consistency it demands, despite the apex court's 2018 judgment in Nipun Saxena Vs Union of India.
