SC refers michel's plea for release to another bench
New Delhi, April 25 -- The Supreme Court on Friday referred to another bench a plea of Christian Michel James, accused in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam case, seeking his release from jail.
Michel approached the SC stating he has completed the maximum period of sentence for the offence in which he was extradited from Dubai in 2018.
On Friday, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant directed the matter to be listed before a bench headed by justice Vikram Nath. The CJI noted that the Justice Nath-headed bench granted James bail on February 18, 2025, in the case probed against him by the CBI. A month later, he was granted bail by Delhi HC in the ED probe.
