SC bats for pay rationalisation for contractual professor posts
New Delhi, Aug. 23 -- The Supreme Court on Friday held that the value a nation places on knowledge is determined by the way it ensures fair remuneration to its educators as it batted in favour of pay rationalisation for contractual assistant professors in Gujarat denied pay revision since 2008.
The judgment came on a batch of appeals by the Gujarat government challenging Gujarat high court orders giving higher pay and arrears to contractual assistant professors working in state engineering and polytechnic colleges. The court reminded the state that academicians form the intellectual backbone of the nation and by treating them fairly, a nation reinforces its commitment to quality education, innovation and a brighter future for its youth.
