SC allows dara Singh to contestremission denial
New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Australian missionary Graham Staines' murder convict Rabindra Pal Singh alias Dara Singh to challenge the rejection of his remission plea by Odisha government after it was informed that his case for premature release was rejected by the Sentence Review Board (SRB) on August 31.
Producing a copy of the SRB decision to the court, the state government said that the decision was taken considering various grounds including the "societal ramification" apprehending communal disturbance in Kendujhar where Singh is lodged.
A bench of justices Manoj Misra and Vijay Bishnoi said, "He will now be challenging it," as it directed the state to provide a copy of the August 31 order to advocate AP...
