New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- India's retail inflation rose marginally to 4.8% in August from 4.5% in July, while wholesale inflation increased to 9.9% from 9.8%, official data showed on Monday. Retail inflation remained within the Reserve Bank of India's 2-6% tolerance band and was broadly in line with economists' expectations. Analysts expect the surge in global oil prices to put upward pressure on inflation and could prompt the RBI to tighten monetary policy in the coming months. State Bank of India chief economist Soumya Kanti Ghosh has forecast a 25-basis-point rate hike in October, followed by another in December, while Care Ratings chief economist Rajni Sinha said a sustained rise in inflation could strengthen the case for a rate hike.P13 ...
