Rape survivors should get pregnancy tests: HC
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 14 -- The Allahabad high court has said pregnancy tests should be provided to rape survivors for them to have an option to keep or terminate the pregnancy within the limit of 24 weeks, while flagging delayed detection in such cases.
The court further sought an affidavit from the principal secretary, medical health and welfare of Uttar Pradesh over the proposed measure.
The bench comprising justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and justice Indrajeet Shukla was hearing a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) registered with respect to care required for the survivors of rape and also girls or women who may be facing unwanted pregnancy.
