India, May 14 -- The Madras High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Union home department, the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on a petition filed by Congress MP and lawyer R Sudha challenging the enrolment of AG Perarivalan, convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, as an advocate. The bench directed the government and the Bar Council to respond to Sudha's petition that challenges the provision of Section 24A of the Advocates Act, which allows people convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, to enrol as advocates after two years from their release. Last month, Perarivalan enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.HTC
