Pune citizens protest against excessive noise during Ganeshotsav, say 'not against festival, opposed to DJs'
India, Aug. 31 -- Punekars gathered at Goodluck Chowk on Sunday to protest the use of DJs, high-volume sound systems and excessive noise during religious celebrations, particularly Ganeshotsav.
The protesters said that their campaign is not against Ganeshotsav or any particular religion but against noise pollution caused by DJs, loudspeakers and other high-volume sound systems.
The demonstration followed Punekar Vidyanand Bapat's opposition to the use of DJs during Ganeshotsav. Bapat had raised the issue at a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) general body meeting, which later turned chaotic. He was subsequently escorted out of the civic building by the police.
