New Delhi, Aug. 13 -- More than 863 birds and animals, including 431 protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, were rescued from five pet shops at Kabootar Market near Jama Masjid in a joint operation by Delhi Police, forest department officials and People for Animals on Sunday. Five shopkeepers were arrested, police said. The protected birds included plum-headed, ring-neck and Alexandrine parakeets and muniyas. The other animals included budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, guinea pigs, squirrels, mice and rabbits. An FIR was registered.htc
