India, Aug. 2 -- A special court in Bengaluru on Saturday sentenced former MP and suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment in connection with a rape case.

The court, designated for cases involving MPs and MLAs and presided over by Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat, had convicted the 34-year-old leader on Friday. This is the first among four rape and sexual assault cases filed against him.

The prosecution, during the sentencing hearing, had urged the court to impose a life term, citing the gravity of the offence.
