BENGALURU, Aug. 12 -- Bengaluru police have detained 116 foreign nationals suspected of staying in the city without valid documents and are verifying their identities and immigration records before deciding on further action, officials said on Tuesday.

The operation, which began on August 8, is being conducted across the Bengaluru City Police limits and does not target any particular nationality, joint commissioner of police Ramesh Banoth said.

"Till Tuesday evening, we have detained 116 illegal immigrants so far," Banoth said.
