India, Sept. 14 -- The police on Sunday denied permission to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil for his march into the city, followed by an indefinite hunger strike from September 19, citing potential security concerns during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations. Undeterred, Jarange-Patil said he remains firm on his plan. "We will go to Mumbai and this is final. But we will remain peaceful," Jarange-Patil said in response to a question on the police denial.

The activist's team subsequently filed a fresh application seeking permission, assuring the police that the protesters would abide by all conditions and regulations imposed for the agitation.
