New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- Petrol pump dealers have threatened to stop accepting UPI payments of Rs.2,000 and above if they are required to pay a merchant discount rate (MDR) of Rs.5 on such transactions made through apps such as Paytm, PhonePe and Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM). Dealers in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Karnataka and Rajasthan told HT that any MDR would add to the burden on their margins of around Rs.2.40-3.40 per litre, which are also determined by the government through oil marketing companies (OMCs). Most dealers requested anonymity, fearing reprisals.
