India, Sept. 7 -- Fuel prices have caused a severe burden on households and vehicle owners in India as people face high costs at fuel stations. The average price India pays for crude oil has reached nearly $100 per barrel, the highest it has been in three months, due to increased volatility in the world oil markets, and at the same time, consumption of important fuel types such as petrol and diesel has gone up.

Since retail prices differ greatly from one city to another because of different state taxes and distribution charges, daily commuting and transportation continue to be major financial worries for the average person.

In New Delhi petrol is being sold at Rs.102.12 a litre and diesel at Rs.95.20, while in Mumbai the prices are high...
