India, Aug. 21 -- A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit Peru on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake struck at a depth of 66.7 kilometres, with its epicentre near Upahuacho, USGS data showed.

The earthquake occurred at 23:30:15 IST (18:00:15 UTC).

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
