Panchkula: A 'challan' message, a malicious APK file, a tap and rRs.r4 lakh gone
Panchkula, April 2 -- An unsuspecting tap on a WhatsApp message regarding a traffic challan turned into a financial nightmare for a Sector 18 resident after Rs.4.11 lakh were unauthorisedly transacted from his account.
The complainant, Brijender Jain, 45, who runs a confectionery shop in Sector 26, told police that on March 22 he received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number containing a fake APK file named "M-Parivahan".
The file, he told police, appeared to be a traffic challan. Believing it to be a genuine, he downloaded and opened the file. An option to pay Rs.1 appeared and he made the payment, he further added.
